Testing PrecipGen Across Four Sites

This blog post presents the results of testing PrecipGen across four diverse locations to evaluate its performance:

  • Australia Plains, AU
  • Grand Junction Walker Field, CO, USA
  • Dublin, EI
  • Orlando, FL, USA

The findings demonstrate that PrecipGen successfully represents both short- and long-term daily precipitation totals at individual locations, validating its ability to replicate observed climatic behavior across varied environments.

Implications and Context for Effects of Climate Change on Urban Water Demands in the Mountain-West

Carly Hansen with Oakridge National Laboratory developed a modeling framework that incorporates multiple drivers of change, uncertainty, and system complexities allowing the user be to address water availability, management, and planning challenges. There are various drivers of change in future residential water use, some of which have clear compounding effects. Strategic planning (e.g. where to focus time and financial resources) requires an understanding of the relative contribution of each of these drivers. Exploring water use through a probabilistic GoldSim model helps address uncertainties inherent with human behavior and multiple scenarios allow for exploration of different drivers of change.

American Water Resources Association 2015 Conference

I recently traveled to sunny Los Angeles, California for the AWRA 2015 Specialty Conference: "Water for Urban Areas: Managing Risks and Building Resiliency." All of the presentations I listened to were very interesting, some of which used GoldSim as the tool to facilitate the studies and results presented. The highlight of the trip, of course, was to visit with some of our customers and make new friends. I also learned more about some of the unique challenges California is facing due to continued population growth, climate change, water quality conditions, and aging infrastructures.
