The GoldSim Contaminant Transport Module Online Course is Now Available!

Posted by Rick Kossik

Over the last two years I posted six excerpts from the Contaminant Transport Module Online Course. I had promised that it was under development and would eventually be posted in full. I posted the last of these excerpts a year ago and then went silent, so you may have wondered "what happened?". With the exception of the last excerpt, these were from the (early) conceptual parts of the Course. The remainder of the Course is "hands-on" and procedural and would not have necessarily worked well in a blog format. Hence, the silence. Well, FINALLY (after 2 years of effort) the full Course is now available. In this post, I briefly provide an overview of what you can expect.

2018 GoldSim User Conference

Posted by
The 2018 GoldSim User Conference was held on September 10-12, 2018, and was a great success. The conference was held at the Washington Athletic Club in the heart of downtown Seattle. With nearly 60 attendees from North America, South America, Asia and Australia, the conference provided great opportunities for our users to discuss and present their GoldSim applications, and discuss simulation techniques with other users and GoldSim staff.

GoldSim User Conference and Training: September 10-12, 2018

Posted by

We are excited to announce that the next GoldSim User Conference will be held in Seattle on September 10-12, 2018. GoldSim user conferences provide great learning and networking opportunities for both expert and novice users.

The conference will be preceded (on September 10) by an optional one-day Basic Training workshop focusing on novice users (and could also serve as a refresher course for more experienced users who have not used GoldSim recently). This training opportunity is particularly valuable since after attending the training you will then be able to meet expert users from around the world during the conference.

The conference itself will be held September 11 and 12. On the first day of the conference, Two parallel advanced training sessions will be held. Each session will consist of a series of 1 hour training workshops on advanced GoldSim applications and modeling techniques. Attendees will be able to move between the two sessions in order to select the workshops that best align with their interests. Topics will be based on attendee requests specified on Registration Form. The second day of the conference will consist of a number of invited papers by GoldSim experts, panel discussions, and a poster session.

To facilitate effective networking opportunities, the Conference will host two fun social outings in Seattle during the evenings of September 10 and September 11. These events not only provide a great opportunity to meet and socialize with other GoldSim users and GoldSim staff, but also allow you to enjoy the sights of Seattle. Spouses/partners can attend these two events (for a modest fee).

GoldSim Training Course in Tucson in December

Posted by Rick Kossik

I'll be teaming with Dave Hoekstra of SRK Consulting to teach a 3-day course entitled "Developing Mine Water Balances in GoldSim" December 3-5 in Tucson. This course is being held in conjunction with the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration (SME) Arizona Conference. I'll be leading the first two days, which are targeted at people new to GoldSim and will cover basic use of GoldSim. Dave will spend the third day focusing on water balance modeling. If you are already familiar with GoldSim, you can attend just the third day. You can read more about the course and register here.

GoldSim in the Academic Community

Posted by Ryan Roper

Most of you are probably aware that GoldSim is used for a wide variety of commercial applications including mine water balance, water resource management, radioactive waste management, project planning and risk and reliability analysis. There are active commercial users in over 50 countries (http://www.goldsim.com/Web/Solutions/Customers/). In addition to these, however, we have another group of users that you may not be aware of: the academic community. There are GoldSim academic licenses at about 150 universities in over 40 different countries.

Learning to Use GoldSim

Posted by Rick Kossik

I am often asked what is the best way to learn GoldSim. Although GoldSim’s intuitive interface will tempt you to simply dive in and start playing with the software, you are strongly discouraged from doing so, even if you are an experienced modeler.  Spending an hour or so up front (by following a few basic steps) is the quickest and most effective way to understand the software’s features and capabilities and start building models in GoldSim. This blog provides some simple tips.
